Raleigh Care Ltd was founded in October 1993. Previously the building had been a small hotel; between 1986 and 1993 it was used as a homeless person’s unit.
At the time of opening it was the first registered home within the London Borough of Camden. It was registered for 11 young people as a home providing preparation for independence. It was some 2 months before the first admission. Raleigh House developed the concept of special packages from this initial placement.
For a number of years Raleigh House ran successfully as a unit providing preparation and training for independence and providing special packages for young adults displaying at risk behaviour. Gradually, it was apparent that many of the young people placed had more deep seated problems that needed to be addressed before they could attempt to grapple with the issues of inter-dependent living within the community. Falkland House was opened to cater for those young people working at moving on to independent living and Raleigh switched focus to become a unit for difficult, hard to place young people with complex problems. Over the years Falkland became an intensive unit for young people requiring intensive support and high staffing levels.
Current
